There are many different types of nonprofit organizations, but only 501(c)(3) federally tax-exempt nonprofits qualify for NIAC membership. A 501(c)(3) organization provides charitable, religious, scientific, literary, or educational services to the public, and is an organization which qualifies for tax-deductible donations. Some examples include Library Associations, Meals on Wheels, United Way, Goodwill, Boys and Girls Clubs, and Charter Schools. Remember, 501(c)(3) nonprofits are the only type NIAC may insure. For a more exhaustive listing of 501(c)(3) nonprofits, check out Guidestar.
